1994-DATE: When the PBA was wound up Alister became freelance. Since then he has been working on a wide range of programmes from Drama to Sport. He filmed and produced a major documentary for National Geographic, a six part series for Meridian and has gained a lot of experience in shooting and editing widescreen broadcast programmes. His work has included live outside broadcasts, acting as director/cameraman on single camera shoots, filming underwater and has taken him to many parts of the world for clients ranging from corporate production houses such as DVA in Baisingstoke to television broadcasters such as the BBC. Alister has experience of all major broadcast and corporate formats including HDCAM, XDCAM, Digibeta, 16mm, DV and BetaSP.
1992-1994: In August 1992 Alister joined the Professional Board Sailors Association (PBA) as a full time producer / cameraman. He helped the PBA to set up its own production facility with duties ranging from shooting camera on location to directing and producing programmes for them. He dealt directly with major clients as well as outside facilities. Alister was responsible for the day to day running of two BetaSP edit suites and equipment hire for location crews. He often went on location as Director/Cameraman and then edited and post produced the programme at the PBA's Ascot office. The programmes were broadcast on Sky TV, ESPN, Eurosport, NBC and Globosat. In August 1994 the PBA was wound up.
1991-1992: After being made redundant from Barrie Hinchliffe Productions (BHP) Alister worked as a freelance cameraman. Projects included live In-Car cameras for the Macao Grand Prix, Providing coverage of many motor sports events for satellite TV. A promotional film for the Crunchie Flying Circus wing walking team as well as work on outside broadcasts and news coverage.
1988-1992: In 1987 Alister was approached by Barrie Hinchliffe Productions with a view to setting up and running an In-Car camera department for them. He set up the department and ran it successfully for two years. Alister also worked as a cameraman on many motorsports events around the world until he was made redundant at the end of 1990. During his time at BHP he was responsible for the development of miniature camera systems used during the BBC's coverage of several motor sports championships.
1986 Alister joined Aston electronics as a Technical Support Engineer. At Aston's he was responsible for dealing with customers technical problems. Other duties included the repair and maintenance of customers Digital Television Broadcasting equipment.
1985 He joined Wood and Douglas as a Microwave link Development Engineer. Alister was part of a team working on the development of radio links for use in the Television and Radio broadcasting industry. Projects worked on included video links for "Run the Gauntlet" and the Branson Pacific and Atlantic balloon crossings.
1984 When Alister left college he started working for Truscotts LTD as a Test Engineer until he was made redundant.
HOBBIES and INTERESTS: He enjoys forecasting and chasing severe thunderstorms
and tornadoes. Alister is a qualified SCUBA diver and enjoys diving almost anywhere.
He is a motor sports fan; in particular he enjoys rallying and has owned and
competed in several rally cars in the past. Alister holds a class A amateur
radio operators licence.
